PRE-APPRENTICE

Starting at $18.38 per hour, this is an entry level position that gives you an opportunity to see if the trade is right for you without fully committing to the program. If after a number of months we feel there is potential, we will refer you to the Sheet Metal Workers Training Centre where you will be indentured as an apprentice.

APPRENTICE

Prime responsibility is to learn and practice good work skills and habits and to represent Summit professionally on the jobsite.

  • be at assigned site on time with positive attitude
  • be prepared to do all work assigned by Site Foreman or Journeyman
  • be willing to learn from Site Foreman or Journeyman
  • take initiative; ask questions
  • be co-operative with other trades
  • have all hand tools required by Local 280 by-laws
  • practice safe work habits and report any unsafe conditions
  • willing to work overtime to complete critical tasks

JOURNEYMAN

Prime responsibility is to fabricate and/or install work that meets Summit’s standard of quality and workmanship and to represent Summit professionally on the jobsite.

  • be prepared to work alone with minimal supervision
  • be prepared to perform all aspects of installations including sealing, insulating and clean up
  • be able to measure fittings and connections
  • advise your Foreman when it’s time to order the outlets and equipment
  • advise your Foreman when stock supplies on site are low ie: screws, angle, hanger strap, S & drive cleat
  • ensure you have enough materials for a full days work
  • willing to work cooperatively with other Trades and Contractors
  • practice safe work habits and report any unsafe conditions
  • willing to work overtime to complete critical tasks
  • have all tools required by Local 280 by-laws
  • willing to teach and advise Apprentices
  • advise on abilities of new workers
  • advise Foreman of any extra work requests by site contractors
  • be willing and able to offer solutions to customers’ problems
  • set a good example, be punctual

FOREMAN

Prime responsibility is to supervise crews and oversee projects from beginning to end while ensuring that Summit is represented professionally on the jobsite.

  • be prepared to work alone with minimal supervision
  • be prepared to perform all aspects of installations including sealing, insulating and clean up
  • be able to measure fittings and connections
  • be responsible for ordering outlets and equipment through the Superintendent or Project Manager
  • ensure you have enough materials on site for your crews to do there work
  • willing to work cooperatively with Contractors and Consultants
  • practice safe work habits and report any unsafe conditions
  • willing to work overtime to complete critical tasks
  • have all tools required by Local 280 by-laws
  • willing to teach/advise Journeyman and Apprentices
  • advise your crews of the tasks they must perform each day/week
  • advise on abilities of new workers
  • advise office of any extra work requests by site contractors
  • be willing and able to offer solutions to customers’ problems
  • set a good example, be punctual

OFFICE MANAGER

Prime responsibility is to provide accounting and clerical activities

  • be prepared to work alone with minimal supervision
  • be prepared to perform all aspects of accounting including filing, data entry, union payroll, job costing, accounts payable/receivable, month end statements
  • be computer skilled including MS Word, Excel and Simply Accounting
  • keep office supplied with necessary equipment and materials
  • perform reception duties including answering phones, providing messages and helping guests
  • work with union to ensure proper payroll submittals
  • willing to work overtime to complete critical tasks
  • set a good example, be punctual
